What to Expect from Cuban Trinidad Cigars
The Trinidad name has been a Habano brand since 1969 and has long been associated with Cuban luxury. Like Cohiba, Trinidad cigars were originally exclusively given to foreign diplomats as gifts to show what luxuries Cuba could produce.
It wasn’t until 1998 that Trinidad cigars were allowed for general sale, and even then they were still produced in small quantities. This tradition remains, making it one of the most exclusive – and expensive – Cuban cigar brands available to the general public.
Trinidad cigars are medium-bodied and packed full of your favourite Cuban flavours. These cigars are renowned for incredible aromatics, smooth draws and complex sweet and nutty notes.
As you would expect from the best Cuban cigars, all Trinidads are completely handmade with filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo region. Trinidads also come with pigtail caps.
Trinidad Cigar Types and Sizes Explained
Originally, Trinidad cigars only came in one size, the iconic Panetela-sized, 40 ring gauge Fundadores. Since 2003, more sizes have been added to the range, but the Fundadores remains the longest in the collection.
On the smaller side of the spectrum, Reyes and Vigia are similar to Petit Coronas, offering a more medium to full-strength smoke with lots of woody notes.
If you prefer larger smokes, beyond the Fundadores, the Esmeralda is a beautiful Toro with a chunky 53 ring gauge, while the Corona-sized Coloniales also offers plenty of smoke.
Other sizes, such as the Topes and Media Luna, sit in the Robustos range, meaning there are plenty of options to suit your preference. Much of the Trinidad range can be purchased as singles or in authentic Cuban cigar boxes.
