History of Quai D’Orsay Cigars

Quai D’Orsay is a unique brand of Cuban cigars with a fascinating backstory. The brand was designed by French tobacco company SEITA, who pitched Cubatabaco in 1973 with the idea of a lighter Cuban to pair with luxury French products such as champagne.

Quai D’Orsay is named after a street in Paris where SEITA was located, and for many decades, these cigars were only available in France. Only after the turn of the century did the brand expand its offering and start selling outside of the French market.

Despite being inspired by France originally, Quai D’Orsay cigars are every bit as Cuban as other Habanos, being expertly crafted in the nation with Vuelta Abajo tobaccos.

Historically, Quai D’Orsay was regarded as a particularly light Cuban cigar, both in terms of taste and appearance with their famous ‘claro claro’ wrappers. Nowadays, the wrapper tends to be darker and the taste stronger, but they still come out on the light side of the spectrum for Cubans.
