While a warming glass of Scotch whisky is the perfect pairing for your cigar in the winter months, the summer may call for something a little more fresh and fizzy to suit patio dining in sunny weather!
We share some of our favourite cocktail recipes that will work wonderfully with your favourite smoke.
Old Fashioned
The classic cocktail for whisky lovers who like to keep it simple, the Old Fashioned puts a spin on your neat whisky and adds a refreshing twist! Pair this with a cigar with spicy notes or aged tobacco, and it will work perfectly with the Bourbon.
Per drink, you will need:
60ml Bourbon
3 dashes Angostura bitters
1 sugar cube
Orange peel
Drop of water
Big ice cube
- In an Old Fashioned glass, soak the sugar cube in a few dashes of bitters and a couple of drops of water. Use a muddler to ensure the sugar cube is mixed.
- Add in a rock of ice and pour over the Bourbon.
- Stir and add the orange peel as garnish.

Dark and Stormy
If you want to steer clear of the fruity and frothy cocktails, then a dark and stormy could be the perfect choice for you. Try pairing this with a darker, full-bodied cigar, as the spicy notes of the tobacco will work excellently with the spiced kick of this drink.
Per drink, you will need:
60ml dark rum
90ml ginger beer
15ml lime juice
Ice
- Fill a tall glass with ice and pour the rum over.
- Pour in the ginger beer and lime juice and stir with a long spoon.
- Garnish the glass with a wedge of lime, serve and enjoy!

Mojito
The perfect sip for a summer day, the ice and mint in this cocktail is sure to refresh. As such a crisp and fresh drink, you’ll want to smoke it with a light-bodied cigar so as to not overpower the minty notes of the drink.
Per drink, you will need:
60ml white rum
1 tsp granulated sugar
1 lime, juiced
Mint leaves
Soda water
- In a small jug, muddle the sugar, mint leaves and lime juice, making sure to crush up the mint leaves as you do.
- Pour the mixture into a tall glass and then fill with ice.
- Pour the rum over and stir together with a long spoon.
- Top the drink up with soda water, and top with mint before serving.
