The final of the Cigar Smoking World Championship has been completed with people from all around the world taking the time to see who can smoke a Cuban cigar the slowest!
For those that don’t know the CSWC has seen regional heats completed in Sweden, Norway, Germany, USA, Russia, Poland and Holland with the final being held in Split, Croatia. The final was in a fitting location as the founder and organiser of the event Marko Bilic is from Split and is president of the distinguished Mareva Cigar Club, with this aficionado being recognised last year for his unrivalled work within the industry when he was awarded the Cigar Trophy “Ambassador” in 2015 for his outstanding work.
The final saw a staggering 88 competitors from 23 countries congregating in Split for the 7th Cigar Smoking World Championship with each competitor aiming to smoke the Macanudo Inspirado Mareva, 5 1/8 x 42 as slowly as possible.
In the regional heats round the world we have seen the world record in slow cigar smoking broke several times, but the final saw no new record set with the current record holder Darren Cioffi settling for 3rd place with a time of 2 hours, 26 minutes and 10 seconds. In 2nd place was Tomasz Zotadkiewicz with 2 hours, 27 minutes and 1 second. Once the last stogie went out it was Swiss entrepreneur Mirko Giotto who took the longest with his cigar, taking a relaxing time 2 hours, 32 minutes and 8 seconds to take out the title.
With next year’s schedule set to be released early in the New Year, now would be the perfect time to head to Havana House, stock up on some fantastic Cuban cigars and get practicing your slow smoking skills at home. Who knows, you could be in the final next year yourself!
